Restoring this dilapidated Grade II listed building to its former glory was just the beginning. Thirdway and Aros Architects collaborated for 16 weeks on-site, encountering and overcoming challenges as characterful as the building.

Queen Street was a full six-floor, 7,000 sq ft refurbishment requiring a sensitive approach to its Grade II-listed heritage. The project included a structural extension and new rear terrace, a bespoke steel spiral staircase leading to a new mezzanine, an upgraded lift, refurbished WCs and new oak herringbone flooring throughout the tenant spaces.

What began as a straightforward interior design brief quickly evolved as the extent of the structural work became clear. From repairing the Grade II façade and addressing water ingress to replacing a rusting steel structure and stripping out existing fittings, the team navigated significant challenges over four months.

Working with overseas clients and coordinating 35 staff through COVID-19 restrictions, Thirdway delivered the transformation on budget, creating a modernised workplace that remains true to the building’s heritage down to the smallest detail.
