Today's Stress Tip

Work at what you love.

You'll never work more willingly, passionately and tirelessly than when you work at something you love. Don't deny yourself this ultimate satisfaction -- even if you have to start in your spare time, even if you're not at first making money at it. The enthusiasm and energy you bring to a favorite endeavor might all but ensure its success, and in time it may even become your primary occupation. Or, you may decide that a reduced income is more than compensated by the happiness it brings to your life. At the very least, try to get past the thinking stages and start putting your dreams into action. Anything is possible.

Health Care Reform: Progress or Politics? - 2/5/2010 7:00:00 AM

Last week, President Barack Obama delivered his State of the Union address, renewing his call for Congress to pass comprehensive health care reform: By the time I’m finished speaking tonight, more Americans will have lost their health insurance. I will not walk away from these Americans, and neither should the people in this chamber. | Read More...

More than two hundred years ago Haiti shed the brutal bonds of French slavery and created the first free black nation and the second republic in the Western Hemisphere. On the Origin of the Torch - 12/11/2009 7:00:00 AM

In three months my country will host the Winter Olympic Games. Vancouver and Whistler are incredibly beautiful places and that, like everywhere else on the planet, has its dark side (See here and here and here). The beauty and problems of a city are magnified the moment it is awarded the right to go into debt to schmooze the world.  | Read More...

Forgive Us Our Debts - 11/6/2009 7:00:00 AM

“Pray then in this way…forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” These words, recorded by Matthew in his Gospel (6:9a,12), are so familiar to many of us that we recite them almost without thinking.

We often think of the “debts” referred to here as sins, which is the word that Luke uses in his Gospel. While including the idea of sin, debt is also a literal economic term.
