Writing down our wishes for the end of our lives is not only important as we reach middle or older ages. I recently helped friends plan the funeral service for their 28-year-old son who died unexpectedly. Finding a two-page paper he had written several years earlier outlining his wishes for his funeral was incredibly helpful in all the decision-making. His wishes for his funeral matched the way he lived his life, and impacted everyone who was part of the service.
